Lets start with how all romantic stories start, at a "hackathon" (whatever that is?) in February 2012 where Sean Rad and engineer Joe Munoz built the original prototype for a dating site. Rad would go on to rename this prototype as “Tinder”, an app that several years later, Hamish and Rebecca would use to connect and strike up a conversation, which covered subjects such as; their mutual hatred for long walks up steep hills. Following this, they arranged to meet, at the peak of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, on a Saturday, which by all accounts was roasting in comparison to Scotland’s usual "summer" weather.
The date would start just outside Edinburgh Waverley Station, a stone’s throw away from the Scotsman Hotel. With a quick first hug they moved on to some of Edinburgh's best drinking spots, including a trip to the vodka bar… (not the brightest of ideas). It would end with a slightly more sober Rebecca plonking a slightly less sober Hamish on a train back to the bright lights of Dundee with the promise to definitely meet up again.
This first encounter would lead to many more milestones, including a global pandemic, three house moves, several holidays, a lot of supermarket trips, far too many takeaways, not enough gym sessions, a few bickers but mainly a lot of love and laughter.
In February last year, Hamish finally (can you guess who is writing this?) popped the question to Rebecca on a trip to the Schloss Roxburghe Hotel in the Borders. The bride-to-be obviously exclaimed yes and the happy couple celebrated with…you guessed it, more drinks! Start as you mean to go on, right?
So, on to the big day! We are so excited to share this special occasion with you all. The opportunity to celebrate with our nearest and dearest is something we will treasure forever. Catch you on the dance floor 😉
